My little butterfly LOVES butterflies so when the note came home from school saying that you could purchase your own butterfly kit, we went for it!
We filled out the form and mailed in a check and within a couple of weeks the kit arrived on our doorstep. Once the housing kit arrived we had to send away for the caterpillars. A few weeks later the caterpillars arrived and then the fun began!
Okay... So I must give credit where credit is due... Grandma has done ALL of the work since the caterpillars arrived. She's read all of the instructions, set everything up, moved and taped and assembled, etc. Thanks, Grandma!
And the back... The wet is from the sugar water that the butterflies will eat. It has started seeping up the sides of the house.
Here are 3 chrysalises... The top one is empty and we are waiting for butterflies to emerge from the bottom two.
Here is the sugar water feeder... A little cup of sugar water with a rolled up paper towel in it. The butterflies land on the paper towel and suck the sugar water from it.
The first butterfly a couple of hours after it emerged from it's chrysalis... We aren't sure, but we don't think that the chrysalises on either side of it are going to survive.
This is really quite interesting to watch. I wish I could watch the entire process more closely... I think we'll do it again next year but maybe we'll keep the kit here. Better yet, maybe we'll get TWO kits!
