Life In The Country

My parents live in the country. I don't mean like 'America' country, I mean like dead, brown, rolling hills away from the city where your nearest neighbor wouldn't hear you if you were screaming inside your house kind of country.

Some people, my parents for example, LOVE country life. They love the beauty and isolation of, they love working on their property (Okay... Maybe not so much that part), they love the peacefulness, etc. Those same things that some people love, are the ones that drive others away. Some people can't handle dump runs and the fact that it takes a minimum of ten minutes to drive ANYWHERE.

That being said, there are certain things that come with country life that us city folk don't have to deal with on a regular basis. You know, things like mice... And LOTS of 'em! My parents must have caught at least 10 mice in the last week. For the record, this usually happens when the farmers start cutting their fields and the mice run for cover. It isn't a daily, weekly or monthly occurrence that there are so many!

Mostly they've been caught in traps, but they had one in the laundry room sink (You should have seen him trying to get out of the sink... My parents took a video!) that they caught in a coffee can and took outside to the field, and one in the dining room that was so stunned it didn't move when it saw my dad so he bopped it in the head with a shoe and it keeled over.

The mouse problem has become so bad that Dad must have started setting multiple traps in the busy locations because last night he founds this...

YEP! THAT is life in the country!
