Blessing Of The Backpacks

Today the kids had their backpacks blessed. Yes, they're being sent back to school with big blessings on their backs.

Our pastor has everyone (adults and kids alike) bring their backpacks to church. He calls everyone with backpacks to gather around him at the front of the church. He gives a short lesson (almost like a children's sermon) then has everyone put their backpacks on the alter. He then says a prayer and gives every backpack a sticker.

It was a bit chaotic with kids and backpacks flying everywhere, but it was cute and the kids were all excited.

After the Blessing of the Backpacks we had our first day of Sunday School. There were thirteen kids there yesterday. I know that doesn't sound like many to a lot of you, but to me it was an army! We're lucky if we have six.

The unfortunate thing is that I won't be there to teach next week which means there will be no Sunday School. It's a bummer to start off so strong and then have to skip the next week but all last year I taught Sunday School and put on all of the Children's Youth Group events with very little help and I'm not in a place to be able to do that this year. For one thing it's too much work and for another thing it makes me begin resenting church and the activities and that's not good.

So... At this point we're taking it slow and we'll see what happens but I'm hoping that in the next week, someone new steps up. Any takers??
