Well that lack of action ended tonight and we packed up our warm clothes and headed out to the speedway. The speedway in this town is a 3/8 mile dirt track that is home to Winged Sprints, Wingless Sprints, Dirt Late Models, Dirt Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, and ALLPRO Dwarf Cars. When you put 30 cars on that track, there's not a lot of room. You basically watch a pack of cars go around. From the front of the pack to the back they take up about half the track. It makes for interesting races because there are quite a few spin outs and wrecks. I think the most consecutive laps we saw between caution flags is 6. When you're watching three different races with 25-35 laps each, this makes for a LONG night!
We weren't sure how the kids would handle the noise, but once Grandma and Grandpa showed up with the ear plugs they were fine. THEY LOVED IT! The only time they showed any emotion other than pure joy was when the ambulance had to come out onto the track. This happened twice but both times word came from the ground crew that the driver was fine before the ambulance could get very far.
We all had a great time and can't wait to go again! Anyone care to join us??
